harry potter and the half blood prince released

Posted by abul | Friday, July 17, 2009 |

Just one more year to go. Understandably, there's so much to do for young Mr Potter and his pals, now in their sixth year at Hogwarts. Before

Still from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

they enter their final year, they have to find ways to wind up their save-the-world mission by wiping out the Dark Lord and his devious ambition. Because, when the seventh year begins, it would be just do or die, with no time for deliberations, explorations, inventions.

Film: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Drama)
Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint
Direction: David Yates

Hence, there is an overriding sense of urgency in the penultimate film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince which moves at breakneck speed from the opening sequence itself. The spooky death-eaters rise from the hell beneath and surround the dimly-lit world, as Hogwarts prepares to open for a new term. Surprisingly, Harry doesn't seem to be in a tearing hurry this time and prefers to spend some quality time in a coffee shop, getting harmlessly flirty with a saucy waitress while he reads a newspaper that anoints him as the Chosen One. But hey, Harry's got no time for birds and bees, does he? So enter Professor Dumbledore (Michael Gammbon) and his homily on how the clock's ticking, hopes dimming and Voldermort's grinning, as he gets closer to victory.

The film literally flies off onto another plane after this brief tryst with levity. It's a darker, brooding landscape that awaits Harry and his friends at Hogwarts as the times get more dangerous and desperate. Harry must befriend the new professor of potions, Horace Slughorn (Jim Boraodbent) and find out the secrets of his star ex-student, Tom Riddle who grew up to be Lord Voldermort, the wizard-gone-astray. Also, he must decipher the new book he has found: a diary of the Half-Blood Prince. Will Professor Slughorn lend Harry the bit of memory he has deliberately expunged and help him find the missing link in the Pensieve (remember Dumbledore's magical memory bowl)? Now this is imperative, for Harry must learn about the Horcruxes -- the objects where Voldermort has hidden his soul after splitting it -- in order to end the Dark Lord's gift of immortality.

It's a treachorous journey which our young hero must embark, almost alone with old ally Dumbledore leading him through the sundry death-defying twists and turns in and around Hogwarts. It's a journey which gets even more agonising, since his friends have other adolescent distractions that keep them busy this time. While Ron is busy fighting off love potions and falling for the campus hottie, Lavender Brown, Hermione is pining away with an unreciprocated ardour for Ron. Harry too is coming to terms with the adrenalin rush that hits him whenever he sees Ginny Weasely (Bonnie Wright), but knows he can't give in to love and its mundane demands, when the world awaits deliverance, and the evil forces -- Bellatrix, Malfoy, Snape (still bad) and voldermort -- are gaining ground.

The film scores heavily in terms of its scintillating cinematography (Bruno Delbonnel), its edgy atmospherics and its straight-from-the-book histrionics. The actors truly live-out the characters, so meticulously created by JK Rowling. Of course, you do miss the menacing presence of Voldermort, who appears as a mere silhouette. But the roll call of evil is otherwise complete with pallid Draco Malfoy, mean and maddish Bellatrix (Helena Bonham Carter) and Parcel-tongued Snape (Alan Rickman) creating adequate havoc and providing a perfect build-up to the climactic Deathly Hallows. But the high point of the film are it's fresh and juicy moments of adolescent madness, where our young wizards try to cope with the turbulence of normal teenage years. Almost poignant!

Keep the series up to date. Don't give this a miss, all you teens and adult-teens.

You think you know your Laptop?

Posted by abul | Saturday, July 11, 2009 |

In this day and age where technology has greatly advanced, laptops have become so common. It is easy to purchase a laptop for as little as $250 or even less. This is because people want to carry out their business as they move from place to place. Even young children in elementary school know how to use laptops. As important as they are, there are risks that come with these laptops. Laptop recovery experts have found that over 2000 laptops are stolen or lost everyday in this world. This eventually means that there are 2000 people everyday who lose their data through theft. For example, it is very common to find laptop users with their laptops in cyber cafés. If they leave them and, say, they go to attend to a nature call, they may come back and find it is not there. Someone has stolen. In addition to this, there are those people who are mugged and even have their houses broken into. These are some of the ways that people can lose their data through laptops. Another thing about laptops is that they are portable. This is actually good because you can work on it while you travel or do other things. But with this portability there are risks of it dropping and crashing physically. You could even be walking with your laptop on the streets when all of a sudden, the strap of the bag carrying it breaks and the laptop drops. That would be a disastrous thing to happen. But there are many people who have dropped their laptops. The most important question they ask is: Can I still get my files? Good news! Yes you can!! (Sounds like a famous slogan). Even if you have dropped your laptop severally but you have not physically tampered with the hard disk, your file can be recovered. All you need to do is get in touch with data recovery experts who will have your data recovered. All they need is your hard drive.

IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) is a commonly used hard drive interface. Motherboards are generally provided with two IDE connectors, IDE0 (Primary IDE) and IDE1 (Secondary IDE). To each of the IDE connector, we can attach two devices at the maximum, where one is given the highest priority and referred as Master Drive while the second one is given low priority and is referred as Slave drive. But sometimes, system prompts that it can't recognize the IDE hard drive as it has failed. These are the cases when Hard Disk Recovery becomes necessary to retrieve lost data.

One of the symptoms that it shows, while hard disk failure is the occurrence of error messages as:
"Primary Master Hard Disk Failure"

As the error message suggests, system is referring to failure of primary master hard drive. It is also sometimes denoted as drive 0, which is entirely dependent upon number of drives installed and BIOS type.

Cause of Error Message:

Hard disk has failed to correctly communicate with the system, most likely due to physical failure. The corresponding causes could be: read/write head crash, actuator arm failure, spindle motor crash, disk controller problems, firmware corruption or electronic issues. In few cases, bad cabling could also be a root cause for this error message. These cables may turn faulty due to issues like heat, wear and tear etc.

Solution

Users are required to consider following solutions:
• If hard disk has gone physically bad, system user should immediately turn it off. The hard drive should be replaced with a new one and data can be restored from a recent backup on the new drive. If backup is unavailable or faulty, Data Recovery service can serve the purpose of optimum recovery.

• If bad cabling is the issue, user can replace the faulty cables with new ones.

Virus attacks are like traffic jams that you always wish you could avoid. Viruses hide in your computer pretending to be very useful application that can help improve your computer performance. First note that viruses come through removable devices that you connect to your computer. If you have never known, digital players and the digital cameras are hampering viruses in there memory devices so watch out!

Install good reputable virus software which can get updates every two days at least. Configure the anti-virus to block any foreign intruders, scan mails and files that you download even from chat rooms. In case there are other users who operate on your system, they may bring in viruses, alert them to scan there devices. Set a virus scan task for the whole computer after working hours, this allows no interference with the system from users.

Enabling the firewall prevents foreign IP address user to have access to your network or even your system. This keeps off hackers and criminals who can either delete all the data from the hard disk devices or drop a software application that can damage the whole system. By installing useful tools like the browser tool bars, you can easily identify harmful sites that may cause harm to your system and hard disk as well.

By practicing protective measure to your laptop, any damage that may befall your system will be at a very low scale. By doing so repairs of any damaged component will be low and recovery of data will be much easier as any physical failure or logical failure will be containable.

Portable Hard Disk Recovery

Posted by abul | Saturday, July 11, 2009 |

Portable hard disk drives are a good way of backing up your data. There are external portable hard disks that can store up to 1 TB (1 terabyte...as in 1000GB of data). That's a lot of data. It is always advised to have backup. The most unfortunate thing is that these portable hard disks can also get damaged and one can risk losing their data.

One risk involved is that this hard disk can drop and get damage at any time. Most portable devices are bound to get damaged because they are being moved from place to place. This movement makes them more prone to damage. For example, say you are going for a company presentation on the products that you offer. Most of your information is stored on the external hard disk. Just as you leave the office, it falls down and crashes. Worse still (although this doesn't happen often), a car can come and run over the portable hard disk as it dropped on the street!! That's disastrous. You may say 'that will never happen to me' but I believe there is someone in this world who has experienced such an incident. So don't count your self out. After all that, one may ask 'how can I retrieve my backup data from my spoilt portable hard disk?'

The answer is quite simple: use data recovery services. Data recovery services does not only deal with internal PC and laptop hard disks, it also includes flash drives, portable hard drives and in other cases CDs and DVDS. I believe if floppy diskettes were still in use, then there would be recovery for the same. As I was saying, your portable disk can go through a recovery process and your data will be recovered. All you have to do is give your portable hard disk to the data recovery expert who will evaluate it and carry out a diagnosis. They will then give you a report on the data can be recovered. Once the go-ahead is given, the recovery process will begin and your data will be recovered.

Windows Vista is a popular operating system used for personal computers, business desktops, laptops, media center etc. But when you try to install or upgrade it, you might receive few errors that may prevent you to continue the process. During such situations, one of the typical reasons is that Vista setup fails to access the hard drive, probably due to hard disk damage. Thus, you are required to immediately replace your hard disk and restore as much data possible from backup. In case of backup issues when you cannot get the required information, hard drive data recovery tools are available to recover it. While trying to install Vista, you might encounter a Stop error: "Stop: 0x0000007B" This error occurs when Windows Vista cannot access the hard drive that contains the startup files for Windows Vista. Cause You get 0x0000007B error in any of the possible situations: 1. No compatible driver for the disk controller is located by Vista 2. Your hd cabling is damaged or not connected properly 3. Your computer is affected by a boot sector virus 4. Incompatible computer BIOS 5. MBR (Master Boot Record) is being used by another program 6. Hard disk is damaged Solution To solve the existing issue, consider following these methods: 1. If you are attempting clean install of Windows Vista or trying to upgrade it, the problem is typically related to absent or incompatible driver, required to be provided. Download Vista drivers and use Load Driver option of Windows Vista setup to install them 2. Make sure that your hard drive and interface cables are healthy and properly connected 3. Scan the computer for viruses 4. If BIOS incompatibility is the issue, replace your motherboard 5. Wait till the program using MBR completes its task 6. If hard drive is damaged, replace it and restore from backup. Consult hard disk recovery service technicians for their manual data recovery help, if you find that your backup cannot give required results or is currently unavailable. hard disk recovery service includes all technical steps to recover data. Stellar Information Systems Limited provides best and unmatched Hard Drive Recovery service. Its recovery solutions are available for all types of hard disks, involving SCSI, IDE, EIDE and SATA. As a home computer owner, one of the greatest threats to your
information and to your wallet, is hard disk failure. When your
drive crashes, you will quicky realize how valuable the
information you can no longer access is.

And when you start searching for disaster recovery services,
you will be surprised how much it will cost to recover that
data. Here are a few tips to help you prevent a data disaster on
your harddisk.

1. If you have an older hard drive, be sure to run free tools
like Data Lifeguard software to check the current condition of
your drive. By discovering any problems before they crash your
disk, you'll have a chance to copy your information before all
is lost.

2. When the time comes to copy your data from one disk to
another, remember to keep the old hard disk. You'll want to make
sure you have a backup while you give your new drive some time
to make sure it is running well.

3. Even on new computers, files on your hard drive can become
disorganized over time. Make sure to run your favorite
defragmentation program regularly.

4. Partioning your disk can also help improve performance. Make
sure to do this from within your operating system if your disk
already has partitions on it. This can often be done through
your operating systems management console.

5. Do not ignore any problems that crop up. If your computer
starts acting strangely, running slower, or giving your error
messages, run a scan disk or CHKDSK immediately. Remember, it
will be much cheaper to repair your hard drive prior to a total
crash!

If you think taking the extra time to follow these steps to
care for your hard disk seems time consuming, I recommend you
check out the cost of harddisk data recovery. You'll quickly
realize the value of these tips!

During POST (Power On Self Test), the BIOS try to get information about all the devises Connected to the system. After checking the processor and RAM it checks for devise such you’re hard disk, CD-ROM, etc., and display them on screen with messages such As ‘detecting IDE drives…’ and Found Primary Master….’etc. Sometimes your BIOS Just refuses to recognize your hard disk, basically making it useless-there’s no way windows will recognize your hard disk if the BIOS doesn’t. Let’s see why this happens:

The most common reason is a loose or badly connected data cable. Make sure the data cable is plugged in properly, both into the hard disk, as well as the motherboard. The same goes for power cable, so check that as well. Also, make sure that the red lines on the data cable and power cable are adjacent to each other.

One you’ve ruled out any cable problems, check the jumper setting on the drives. If two drives are connected to a port, make sure one is set as master and the other as Slave, or else both are set to Cable Select.

Next, make sure your drive controllers on your motherboard are not disabled. These controllers control IDE devices, and without them the BIOS cannot detect the drives. Go to the BIOS setup, and under the Integrated Peripherals menu, make sure that ‘On Board HDC’ is enabled for both Primary and Secondary channels. Also ensure that all drive types are set to AUTO under the Standard CMOS Setting. If you are not comfortable with changing the BIOS values, just reset the BIOS to factory defaults.

When all else fails, so has your hard disk send it to a technician for servicing.

When you start your Windows XP computer, it may fail to boot with some error message. It makes your valuable business as well as personal data inaccessible and requires Hard Disk Recovery as a fix.

At this point of time, you may encounter the following error message:

"Unmountable Boot Volume"

This error message signifies that Microsoft Windows XP is unable to boot due to file system damage due to which it has become unmountable.

Cause of this problem

Generally this error message occurs due to the following four reasons:

1. The file system is corrupted and operating system can not access boot files from the hard drive.
2. If you have swapped the drive and used inappropriate interface cable to connect it.
3. Your computer is using UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access) drive controllers and use standard 40-wire connector to connect it.
4. Boot.ini file of Windows XP operating system is either corrupt or missing.

To retrieve your lost data, you need to perform Hard Drive Recovery by fixing this problem as soon as possible.

Resolution

To sort out this problem, there are four possible solutions:

1. Properly connect the interface cable.
2. Replace 40-wire connector with 80-wire connector
3. Repair the Windows XP installation.
4. Perform Hard Disk Recovery using efficient recovery applications.

If the first three steps fail, using recovery software is the only option to salvage your data. These are powerful tools which help you in almost all logical (software based) data loss situations and recover all your valuable data in an easy and effective manner.

Such software use effective scanning mechanisms to perform thorough scan of the entire hard drive and extract all lost, missing and inaccessible data from it. With read-only and non-destructive nature, the Hard Drive Data Recovery software are safe tools to use and performs absolute data recovery.

The recovery applications come equipped with interactive and simple user interface with rich graphical support. It makes these software user-friendly and does not require sound technical skills.

These software can recover data from different versions of Windows operating system and storage devices like hard drive, USB drive and so forth. In order to get assured results, you are recommended to go for a time-tested and advanced software.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is the foremost Hard Drive Recovery software with exceptional feature-set. It supports recovery from FAT16, FAT32, VFAT, NTFS and NTFS5 file systems based partitions and volumes. The software supports Windows 7 (Currently in RC1), Vista, XP, 2003 and 2000.

If you have used your computer for a long period of time you will eventually experience a hard disk error. These errors are much more serious than most software problems and complete hard drive failure will usually render your computer useless. Some common errors are:

No fixed disk present

Drive failure

Fatal Error - Cannot access

Hard Disk Tools

It is always difficult to correct these problems. Often you will have to obtain professional help to recover data . For this reason maintenance, on a regular basis, is very important. Windows XP is equipped with two tools that will do regular hard drive maintenance. This helps to keep the computer in good condition. The applications are Disk Defragmenter and Disk Cleanup.

Disk Defragmenter

Over a period of time, parts of some files are stored all over the hard drive wherever space is at hand. These fragmented files slow down your computer by increasing the data access time. In order to read the fragmented file, the head of your hard drive has to move rapidly all over the drive which may at some point cause damage to it .

Disk Defragmenter which comes with Windows XP selects all of the noncontiguous file sections and rearranges them to reduce the number of different sections or to restore the file completely. This improves the data access time, and reduces the load on the drive, thus improving performance.

To run Disk Defragmenter open Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter. In the window, select the volume that you want to defragment and click on the button.

To prevent problems from ocurring during defragmentation, it is a good idea to work in Safe Mode. Select F8 at startup and choose the Safe Mode option. In Safe Mode, your computer starts up with only the basic processes and services. This allows the Disk Defragmenter to run faster and more effectively.

Disk Cleanup Tool

The accumulation of a large number of unwanted files not only clutters up the computer, but may cause damage. You can perform a manual search for unwanted files but this is not an advisable method. Windows XP has a Disk Cleanup tool that automates cleaning up the hard drive. Using Disk Cleanup you can empty the Recycle Bin and remove these items from your system:

1. Unwanted Programs
2.Unwanted Windows Components
3.Temporary Internet Files
4.Downloaded Program Files
5.Temporary Windows Files

To start using this tool , click on Start-> All Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> Disk Cleanup.

Other Tools

In addition to the above, you should use other maintenance tools such as antivirus, anti-spyware, and registry cleaner applications to keep your hard disk free from unwanted material. Your antivirus and anti-spyware programs must be regularly updated with the latest virus definitions and used regularly to remove malicious files. Viruses and spyware will copy numerous useless files to the hard drive, cluttering it up. This may also cause serious damage.

Over a period time, the system registry becomes fragmented and bloated with unwanted data, slowing down your computer and affecting the hard drive. To prevent this you should use a good registry cleaner to regularly scan for unecessary files and to defragment it.

In summary the best way to prevent these problems is to do regular preventive maintenance. Additionally, you should also regularly backup all of your critical files on an external drive or other storage platform. If the hard drive fails, you will be able to recover your data from this backup.

We tested several of the popular registry repair tools and found one that was definitely superior in performance. This good application found and removed up to 50% more errors than some of the others.

Would you like to know which registry tool we found to be far superior to the others we tested? Would you like to have a free scan to correct registry errors? Would you like to know how to tune up your computer for best performance? Go to our website where you will find much additional free info and resources: http://www.bestregistryrepaironline.com

The hard disk is the magnetic disk on which are stored files and computer programs. Unlike the floppy or CD, which can also keep files and programs, the hard disk's box stay permanently in the PC and usually you do not take it out except if you want to change it or something does not work well.

I would like to present you some useful tricks to find out if your hard disk work properly.

Physical disk and logical disk. A hard disk is a physical disk, meaning a unit of magnetic memory. The total area that can register information can be divided into several logical disks, for a more efficient use. In MS-DOS and Windows, each logical drive is associated with a point followed by the symbol ":" after a simple rule: with the letters A and B we note the floppy disk and start with the letter C: the logical disks. After logical disks, the next letters are used by CD-ROM, pen drives and other similar devices that could exist in the system.

Available space. It is useful to know what space is available on the hard disk, in case he gets too small and you decide to replace him with one more, or if you want to know how much space you have. Open My Computer and you will immediately have a picture of your computer disks. From menu, choose View / Details to see the parameters required. It is possible to have more hard disks, or the hard drive to have more logical disks and then you will see more of the same icon labeled C:, which says Local Disk drive but each has a different letter. For each of them you will see the total subscribed and space (Total Size), and remained free space (free space).

Capacity of a hard disk is measured in Megabytes and Gigabytes, ie multiples of the byte. A byte (pronounced bait) should not be mistaken for a bit. A bit is a binary digit which can only have values 0 or 1, while a byte is a binary 8-bit and has a value between 0 and 255. One megabyte (1MB) has 1024KB and GigaByte has 1024 MB. Currently, a hard disk has a few medium-sized GB. By 2002 I have worked well for months, with a computer processor 486, which have a hard disk 400 MB, which is ridiculously little compared to PCs with Pentium processor today. So small hard disks are not even manufacturing today. In fact, already started to disappear from the market hard drives of less than 10 GB!

How big should it be? If you bought a computer without knowing much about him, you were probably happy with the size of hard disk contained in the computer offered for sale. But there are moments in which you will need a larger hard disk, so you will start asking for a larger one. But how big? The answer depends on what you do with your computer, and how effectively you use the space on the disk. If you want to use the PC only for training, or accounting, then a hard disk of 80 GB will be enough. If you want to make development programs and other technical and scientific applications, then you probably need about 160 GB. But if you want to put games on your PC all the rage, which occupy hundreds of GB each, it is assumed that you need a hard drive and more.

Do not let the hard drive is to fill up! It is highly recommended as a hard disk is not allowed to fill to over 80% of capacity. It will work even if it fills more than 90% of capacity, but you find that your PC will work much slower. This happens because the operating system uses space on your hard disk for temporary storage of data during the work. If not enough space available, the operating system will slow down. Do not be surprised if it will freeze! So check from time to time remaining free space on disk and delete the unused files. And do not forget: the files are actually removed only after you empty the Trash Bin.

Can I delete files without fear? To do "clean" the hard disk, you can delete certain files that are not necessarily required. First, Empty "Trash", where all files are deleted: Right-click the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin. And then delete temporary files in directories (C: \ TEMP, C: \ WINDOWS \ TEMP), after that you make sure that among them is not something you put in storage or that might be useful. Also, any file whose name begins with the tilde ("~") is a temporary file was not closed because of any system errors, and you can delete them.

Backup. This term means "safety copy", so do it as often as possible, to have an option in trouble. Computers "crack" sometimes because of operating system errors, sometimes due to a physical failure of any vital components, or even because of any current banal feathers, and there is risk to lose data hard disk. If you have important data on your hard disk, make sure you backup them regularly. From time to time (especially if these files change), renew the copy! You can copy important files on DVDs, and if the volume of data is higher, you can backup to another hard disk or on another computer.

You bought a new hard drive and you want to install it, what you should do?

There is one thing called jumper on the hard drive, you need to change it's location from Master to Slave if you have the Master, if not live it as master. This is not needed when installing SATA drives.

It is not important if its IDE or SATA drive, the process of installing it is completely the same. You will get some cables that are used to connect the drive to your motherboard, just try to secure a safe place in your tower for the new drive. Also try to avoid touching other cables, circuits and panels in your computer tower. First connect data cable and after that you can connect the power.

Watch when installing because hard drives are really sensitive peace of hardware.

After that you should turn on computer and enter BIOS immediately to check if it recognizes the drive, sometimes it recognizes it automatically, some times you need to change some options in order to make BIOS know the component is there.

Now you should know that drives are low formatted when you get them, so you should do "high level format" before using it. You could just boot for example XP and go to "my computer" to find a new drive located in that folder. Then select the new drive, right click on it, go to tools and select Format. It will ask you to choose the file system and you should choose NTFS system, click start after that and be patient. This operation can last long, especially with large capacity drives, but leave computer working until this operation is finished.

Once it is completed you can reboot your personal computer and then find the new drive. Adding a new drive may change letters for other drives, so don't be confused with it. This is what needs to be done, but you can never know what can go wrong with computers.

If your computer's system still uses FAT32 you may have problems with bigger capacity drives like 120Gb drive or a larger, the system sometimes can't recognize them. Service Pack 2 could solve this problem, or you can update your BIOS if you have some really old motherboard. You can also turn off your computer, check cables again just to make sure everything is connected as it should be. After that reboot, go to BIOS to see if the device is recognized now, you may even need the boot disk for your system or you can download it too, it is needed to format this new drive before it can be installed as a slave drive of your original Master drive.

If this does not help try calling some computer repair service, or computer repair on site service that can look at the problem and fix it in no time.

You can try to fix problem yourself but it is always advised to contact some help and support and see what is the best thing to do when a problem occurs.

Serial AT Attachment (SATA) hard disks are more common in use today, and the reason is because they are much faster and communicate through a serial connection (hence the term "Serial" ATA), meaning one disk does not have to wait for the other to finish a task before it can start its own operations. There are a number of things you must do before you install a hard disk.

If you want to invest time and money in installing a new SATA hard disk, you will need to have a motherboard that has some SATA ports. If you do not, this simply means you will have to go and get one. If you do not know what a motherboard is, I suggest you consult someone who works in a computer hardware store to help you get what you need. Motherboards are not very expensive, but can be, depending on how many features you want in them, and the type of CPU they support. You might get into a mess of buying new hardware, so be aware that investing in SATA is not for the faint of heart. You will have to get used to this if you want to customize your computer.

If you already have a motherboard that has SATA connectors, installation is simple. First of all, you will have to open up your computer to operate inside it. There are small 4-wire connectors leading from the power supply called peripheral power connectors. There are two types of these. The first type usually has a white plug and is thick. The second type usually has a black plug and is dimensionally flat and thin. The latter are SATA drive power connectors. If you do not have such connectors, you should purchase a converter, which has a receiving connector on one end (for the thick connectors) and a transmitting connector on the other end, which will lead to your hard disk. Connecting the power connector to your SATA hard disk is simple. All you have to do is connect it to the leftmost port, which it fits inside of perfectly.

The next step in installing your SATA hard disk is to connect the SATA cable. You should have an SATA cable available, or else you will have to purchase one at your local computer hardware store. The motherboard of your computer should have some SATA ports usually located near the PCI bus. These connections are easy to identify, since they do not have any pins sticking outwards inside them. Your SATA hard disk should also have a port that looks similar to the one on the motherboard right next to where you connected the power connector. Just connect the cable to both ports and make sure that the cable is firmly in place. You can check if an SATA cable is firm by pulling lightly on it. If it stays on and does not move around, it is firmly attached.

After following these steps, your SATA hard disk should be ready to use and you can close your computer now. If you have any problems after the disk installation, contact an assistant at the nearest computer hardware store and the assistant will be more than glad to help you out.

Your computer may be experiencing sound problems like buzzing, breaking of the sound stream or your computer may not have sound at all, and other problems. If you are not experienced with a particular problem it is best to call some computer repair service. If you are wondering what causes your sound card to stop working or makes problems, you should know that there are many things you can check by yourself.

See if the speakers are plugged into a power source. There are some old speakers that used batteries as a power source, if you have those check the batteries because they may be empty. There is a big number of old sound adapters and laptops that have manual volume dial. You should try to position your volume dial in the middle and not to far on the sides, because it can turn off the volume.

Have you installed the driver for your sound card?

There are cases when people reinstall operating systems on their personal computers and they forget to install the drivers. Some motherboards have soundcards implemented on them and you can find sound drivers on installation disc for your motherboard. Sound cards that are not implemented on motherboards have driver installation discs too. Best way is to find most recent driver for particular sound device and download it from device manufacturer's official site. Then you can install it and solve the problem.

There are cases when system plays audio files fine but it can't play music CD's. Look for a hidden mute in software, maybe someone muted it or you did it by accident, there are cases when it is auto/muted. Also check cables in your computer tower, maybe some of the cables are not connected as they should be.

If you only have built in integrated motherboard sound support you should check if it is enabled in CMOS. And if you are using a sound card you should check if the motherboard sound device is disabled, it can make a conflict and mute all sounds. There is a possibility when the system can't recognize your sound card after previous steps. Try to unplug your sound card manually if it's a plug and play sound card, and remove any other adapters except your video card. After those reboot your computer and let your BIOS adjust and configure. After that step shut down your computer and replace your sound card, just to see if that can get it going. If it works now, you might have problems again when you put the other adapters back in. If you do it one at a time you can know where the conflict appears.

If none of the above helps, it is advised to call some help and support center or a computer repair service. They can determine if the sound card can be fixed or you maybe need to buy another. These services are great and they can accurately find what the problem is and fix computer in no time.

When laser printers were introduced in the late 90's, it somehow revolutionized the concept of document reproduction. Gone are the days when we depended solely on the neighborhood printing shop for our requirements that range from simple pay slips to the more cumbersome corporate reports. But, even if laser printers can now satisfy many of our basic printing requirements; these printers operate with very expensive toner replacement cartridges. Why, some consumables are even priced higher than the acquisition cost of the printer. For the Samsung ML 2010 laser printer, its OEM toner cartridge can be purchased at $81. Said consumable comes with a specified rating of 3,000 pages at 5% coverage. Expensive! Users cry out but they are left with no choice but to procure one or their printing jobs will be sacrificed. But have you ever heard about the third party consumable called toner refill kit? Retailed at the low price of $22, the refill toner duplicates the printing savvy of OEM toner cartridges.

How do we refill a Samsung ML 2010 toner cartridge?

First, know the specs of your laser printer - from the type and model to the specific toner replacement cartridge. This is because cartridges are designed to fit and work only with an intended printer model. In the same way, toner refill kits are manufactured for use on specific toner cartridges and the respective laser printer. Therefore, refill toner is not generic across cartridge and printer models. When ordering a toner refill kit, make sure that you are getting refill toner that is 100% compatible with your toner cartridge and laser printer. The process is really simple! Order a kit today and follow the steps supplied with the instruction manual and you can never go wrong; more so because pictures complement the step by step procedures. The kit includes the following items:

  • a bottle of toner replacement
  • latex gloves
  • funnel cap and
  • toner wipes.

To begin the refill, pull out the empty cartridge from the laser printer and check the removable lid or panel.

  1. Now with your crosshead screwdriver take out the screw holding the removable panel to access the toner chamber.
  2. The hopper cap should now be visible. Unplug it using your flat head screwdriver, but care should be observed as not to cause damage to the hopper cap.
  3. Empty the cartridge of old toner residues, if possible apply sucking pressure to really clean the inside chamber.
  4. Use the 'no mess' pouring spout and fill the chamber with the new toner powder and plug on the hopper cap.
  5. Replace the removable lid or panel and wipe the outside of excess toner.
This completes the refill process but before loading the cartridge back into the laser printer, shake the refilled cartridge slightly to loosen the toner powder. You are now about ready for another round of laser printing.

One of the things that we continually seem to see restrain ourselves in the technology industry is space. Not only space in regards to actual physical space like how big our computers are on the desk but in regards to storage capacity. For our computers to work correctly and for them to work smoothly we need to provide adequate amount of space for the computer to use in its programs functions. In today's world we are seeing more and more of a demand for our computers and a demand for our computers not to labor at simple tasks. It is truly amazing at how fast the industry is moving when it comes to computers. The minimum requirements that the basic everyday function of a computer demands keeps growing as we speak and as new ways of using computers are introduced every day. As a computer user whether at work or at home you need to be aware of the industry and how fast things really are moving. You need to be aware of new technologies and how and why they are improved and what benefit they do hold that you can utilize in your computers usage.

Well the first thing that affects our computers usage and may cause our computer to be slow is the hard drive. Space is essential when it comes to doing everyday tasks. Programmers as well as, engineers and computer architects, are building more complex and sophisticated line of code every day. As they find new ways and faster shortcuts for doing the same functions the demand on the hardware becomes more apparent. This causes a strain on your hard drive as more and more space is needed based on how the software is written. It is important to note the hard drive, or storage, is not to just collect letters, photos, and music. Your hard drive provides your computer with a resource to run and execute programs. The computer needs space to remember all of the things it has to do to operate simultaneously. If you start to run out of this important resource your computers speed is upset almost instantly. This is what can cause a slow computer.

The first thing you need to make sure of especially when buying a new computer is to make sure you get plenty of hard drive space. It is better to buy it up front than have to worry about getting a larger on later when your computer may not be in production anymore. It is almost impossible to have too much space. You can never use enough and if it takes you a year to finally use it, you will be happy that you have it when you need it. It is better to have enough than not enough at all. Years ago it was easy to get away with having 100GB hard drives because programs were simple. Today programs are far more complex and user friendly and we have approached a time of having a decent hard drive at 500GB and soon looking at 1TB required just to load the basic programs needed and to run your computer.

If you're looking for computer ink cartridges on the internet, you are bombarded by offers claiming to save you money.

While there are legitimate offers on the internet to save you money, there are some things that you really need to know about.

First of all, don't fall for refill kits unless they include inks made in America and are manufactured specifically for your model of cartridge. Worse yet, if you're not confident trying to refill, don't bother. There are other ways to save money.

Remanufactured computer ink cartridges can save you a lot of money but be warned, you need to use a supplier that does uses what I mentioned above...

American made inks.

Why?

American ink labs put invest in the needed research to be able to make inks that will work in your cartridge properly. You can save alot of money by using remanufactured cartridges that have the right inks in them. Just make sure you use a supplier that you can trust.

This is especially the case with hp cartridges, as hp requires their black cartridges to have a high quality pigmented black ink to work properly. Epson cartridges can be a little tricky, too as the viscosity of the ink can play a factor in printhead life. Canon, well you can pretty much put any ink in a Canon printhead and it will work fairly well.

If you have a dell printer, you can really save money by using cartridges that are professionally remanufactured. Regardless of what you do, don't buy your cartridges based on price alone as you could be left disappointed.

After having Windows XP loaded on my laptop for some time now, I noticed that the boot time and the shutdown time were not as quick as I would like. So after some research and help from www.Google.com, I was able to come up with some solutions in order to speed up both processes.

Prefetch

There are several ways to increase the boot time. First Windows XP has a Prefetch directory located in the Windows directory. The use of the prefetch directory is to hold cached information regarding recently accessed files. Application as well as boot files are cached here. You can delete all the files within the Prefetch directory as seen in the below image that will allow faster boot times due to less file cache reading.

Another tweak you can perform regarding Prefatch is a registry entry. If you are not familiar with editing the registry, please see the Microsoft knowledge base article here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;TR;322756

Within the registry, you can set prefetch to function in several different ways. Prefetch can cache applications, boot up files, both, or you can disable it completely. To improve boot speed set the following value in the registry to a value of 2.

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters\EnablePrefetcher

If you are uncomfortable with editing the registry, download the following file here (Prefetch_Registry.zip). Unzip it. Then double-clicking the resulting .REG file to insert the entry into your computer’s registry. It will set the value to 2.

This should help you on your way to a speedier startup and shutdown in Windows XP.

Speed Up Vista Startup

Posted by abul | Tuesday, July 07, 2009 | ,

So your tired of your computer starting up slow and you want to know how to speed up vista startup on your machine. Trust me we have all been there at some point in time. It can be extremely frustrating when your computer takes longer to get up and running in the morning than you do! Unfortunately if you have owned your computer for any length of time then it has no doubt become much slower than it was when you bought it. Its ok though, there are several simple ways to speed up the vista startup time on your computer and actually make it run faster than the day it came out of the box!

The two primary causes of your vista startup slowing down over time are corruptions in the registry of your computer and excess programs running during your startup. If you want to speed up vista startup on your computer then these are the problems to address first. The registry controls your computers operations with a set of keys or codes that correspond with each operation.

If your registry becomes corrupt and the keys no longer match up with the operations then your computer has to work that much harder to do what it needs to do and this leads to your slow startup time. The other issue is with the programs you are running during your computers startup. If there are an excess of applications and programs running while your computer tries to start up then it takes your computer a lot longer to startup. You may be surprised at how many programs are starting up with your computer that you have no need for and are not necessary for your computers performance.

If you tackle both of these problems your computer will run as fast if not faster than the day you purchased it and it is quite simple to do

Information, knowledge and communication are crucial to today's military missions in the field where rugged portable computer systems fill a crucial and necessary need. Constant and quick communication requires computers to be rugged and small enough to withstand the harshest environments. But aside from military applications, the same portable ruggedness is needed in civilian applications.

When a raging forest fire is moving with lightening speed, jumping from one mountain side to another, the firefighting teams need to communicate quickly to give a status to ground and air operations of each situation. The computer systems need to withstand the heat and constant jostling as firefighters move with the fire to control it. In addition to withstanding heat, the computer systems have to withstand freezing cold, high elevations and plunge into the ocean depths.

Other emergency services include Law Enforcement, Border Patrol, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT teams), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT teams), Logistical Support for all emergency branches of federal and civil government. Various industries have a need for rugged portable computer systems such construction, excavation, industrial facilities (treatment plants, chemical plants), shipyards, trucking, geological surveys as well as healthcare, laboratories, and humanitarian aid.

The technology, which grew from military applications, has made a smooth transition to civilian applications. Now using cutting edge technology in providing moving maps gives units real-time visibility of surroundings, coordinates unit movements with GPS mapping and gives complete situation awareness in urban and rural environments. As our needs for rugged portable computer systems increases, you can be sure the technology will continue to decrease in size yet increase in computing strength.

New age office technology features computer accessories which have revolutionized the way we work with computers. Businessmen and corporate enterprises have found that owning a laptop or a desktop computer alone wouldn't suffice. There are a lot of complementary components that need to go along with them to establish a full-fledged working environment.

Computer accessories aid in getting better results. They have specific purposes and benefits. Take for instance a situation where you find it difficult to view your laptop screen; you can always opt for a laptop raiser to adjust its height to your specific needs. This eliminates the constant need for bending and helps you maintain a proper posture, thereby avoiding back related ailments. Similarly, a notebook arm lets you adjust the positioning of the laptop for easy handling. This is best suited for labs and offices where there is space constraint and people are constantly on the move.

Advanced office technology solutions include the latest computer accessories, which have made the experience of working more pleasurable. Unlike earlier, when stress was a major factor affecting efficiency, today we have comfortable, anti-stress components that ease computer usage. These include gel based wrist-rest (keyboard) and mouse pads which help reduce pressure from long duration typing and handling of the mouse.

Computer monitor accessories are among the most sought after office technology solutions. Monitors emit harmful radiation and the constant glare affects our eyes. The use of anti-glare radiation filters on the monitor helps computer workaholics attain relief from headaches and watery eyes.

For corporates and big businesses, computer network accessories are definitely a boon. It is convenient to establish a computer network with the right accessories than having to run about for one thing or the other.

In an effort to ensure state-of-the-art office technology, manufacturers introduce innovative computer accessories on a regular basis. You can find cleaning kits for printers and monitors, CD/DVD lens cleansers, toolkit, computer stands and a lot more. There are many discount computer accessories stores which offer competitive pricing.

Many times you wonder why your replacement laptop computer battery dies so quickly and if there are any precautions you can take to avoid this problem. If you care for and maintain your batteries properly, you can easily extend the lives of your laptop computer replacement batteries. It can be frustrating when you purchase a replacement battery for your laptop and after a few months the battery life has significantly declined. This is not what you want to happen. Below are some simple steps that can be taken to ensure that your battery lasts for its maximum potential.

If you constantly remove your replacement battery from the laptop and store it away it can ultimately become soiled, and no longer functional at peak capabilities. To alleviate the problem of a soiled battery, take a cotton swab and Isopropyl alcohol to rub down the laptop battery. When cleaning the metal connectors be sure to always use a dry cloth. While cleaning the contacts you should use the Isopropyl alcohol. This will properly clean your replacement laptop battery. Having clean contacts helps maintain a good connection between your battery and notebook computer. The optimal place to store your laptop battery is in a cool, dry place that is away from excessive heat. Make it a point to keep the laptop battery away from any form of extreme heat. Heat is a batteries enemy, so avoiding heat is very advantageous to your batteries lifespan. Also make sure that the battery is not near any metallic objects that can disrupt the batteries charge. It is not uncommon for Lithium-Ion batteries to discharge after extended periods of being stored.

It is a good idea to exercise any replacement laptop batteries at least once every two to three weeks. Exercising a laptop computer battery means using the battery and not leaving it dormant for extended periods of time. If the laptop battery is not used for extended periods of time it is highly recommended to exercise it in-between down times. This will prevent significant battery capacity loss. By following this simple step your laptop battery will be able to store more of a charge than if otherwise left alone. If you do not use the laptop battery frequently then you should exercise it before attempting to use it regularly.

If you are using an AC Adapter to power your computer then it is advisable to remove the good battery from your notebook and replace it with an old, short run-time battery. This is a good practice as the battery in the laptop will continuously be charged and discharged rendering the battery life shorter than ever expected. Excessive charging and recharging of batteries drastically shortens battery life. Thus, it is a good idea to remove that brand new battery from your laptop when it is being powered through the AC Adapter.

Utilizing your laptops power management features prior to use can extend the life of your battery.

Defragmenting your laptop is beneficial to your computers performance along with its battery life. Having a clean, defragmented notebook ensures that the laptop will run in an efficient manner. Having a laptop computer run efficiently will increase the batteries life span, by not draining it trying to reach programs. All these simple tips can ensure that your replacement laptop computer battery will have an extended lifespan.

Over time all the computers tends to slow down and this leads us to buy new hardware equipments to maintain the current speed flow and performance of the machine. These upgrades over time can turn to be very expensive and this is why I want to share with you guys some of ways that you can speed up your computer performance with a fractions of the price.

So are you ready?

First of all let me tell you why your computer is slowing down, I think this very important to know the reason behind the slow downs. You see over time your machine gets saturated with useless data, what I mean is that your computer is getting cluttered with garbage.

What do I mean by garbage?

Well, every time you install and uninstall any programs there will be always files left behind, mainly registry files. And these files will get cluttered over time. This is the main cause of the problem so to fix it you must remove the entire "garbage" registry left over files.

To do that you must use a Registry Cleaner software program, these kinds of programs will search and remove all the invalid, corrupted and left over registry files.

For more information about registry cleaners I strongly suggest visiting the link below.

Another way to speed up your machine is to remove the startup programs that you do not use often. To do this just go to home -> run and type "msconfig" and under the startup tab uncheck all the startup programs that you do not use often (restarting system may be required). By removing these startup programs you can free your computers memory by 30%.

A good way to use computer memory is to perform a disk defragmenter, this will organise your computer files and folder making it very easy to the machine to find the proper information. By doing this you will increase your computer speed by 20%.

Blogger Read More/Post Summaries - The Best News Yet!

Posted by abul | Sunday, July 05, 2009 | ,

One of the functions most voted for in Blogger's recent Product Ideas forum was the ability to summarize blog posts on non-item pages.

I've written about a few different approaches to this, but these methods were never so easy to implement.

Luckily I came across this tutorial from Quite Random which offers the simplest - and most useful - method of displaying post summaries automatically for our Blogger posts, complete with a thumbnail from images used in our posts.

This customization is very easy to implement (there are literally only two steps) with very little editing of the template required. I installed with immediate success on several templates to test it out, and with only a little tweaking on one of my most customized designs.

In short, this is a fabulous implementation of post summaries for Blogger. Be sure to pop over to Quite Random to check out this post and learn how to install this hack for your own Blogger blogs.

However... This is not my only source of good news regarding post summaries for Blogger!

The Blogger team are in the process of implementing this function in Blogger! Or at least, I'm pretty certain they are.

Take a look at this screenshot which was taken from a clean installation of Minima (a default Blogger template) on a new blog (click the image for a larger version):

These tags look suspiciously like tags which could be used for implementation of post summaries. What's more, it seems we can choose whether or not to summarize our posts, and also the text used for the link to read the full article.

I can't say for sure when this implementation will become available, though I believe this will first be rolled out into Blogger in Draft so any issues can be resolved before the summaries become available to us all.

There's not yet been any mention about this on the Blogger in Draft blog, Blogger Buzz or even by the team on Twitter, but since this code is now appearing in new templates I'd guess this will become available in the very near future.

Stay tuned, I'll get more news about this as it happens and will (of course) explain how to use summaries in customized templates too.

This is a feature I'm very excited to know is in progress, so if anyone does have any news to share, please let me know!
